Four villages in the Kunene Region Otuzemba, Otjiwarango West, Kamajab Settlement, and Sesfontein now have access to clean, reliable water following the installation of three solar-powered boreholes funded by the SSC CSR Fund.
Prior to this project, residents predominantly elderly community members and young children walked up to eight kilometres daily to collect water from seasonal riverbeds. The new boreholes provide a year-round supply of clean groundwater, dramatically improving health conditions and reducing the burden on community members.
"Water is life," said a community elder at the commissioning ceremony. "What the SSC has done here will change the lives of our children and grandchildren forever."
Each borehole is equipped with solar-powered submersible pumps, elevated storage tanks, and communal taps. A local water committee has been established and trained to manage and maintain the infrastructure.
The total cost of the project was N\.2 million, and it is estimated to benefit over 800 people directly. The project serves as a model for sustainable, community-driven water access solutions across rural Namibia.
